Urgent Repair Saves Vessel from Downtime

Greetings!I wanted to share a story from last August during the Diwali festival season. While everyone was enjoying the festivities, our superintendent engineer, Mr. Nihit received an urgent call. A key client from Singapore had a vessel stuck near port with a serious issue: the main engine, a massive 12S90 ME-C with 51,000 Horsepower capacity, was inoperable due to a damaged stuffing box cover plate.

The vessel's crew had attempted repairs but unfortunately worsened the problem. With the ship's schedule in jeopardy, panic set in. Emails were flying, and the situation seemed dire as the damaged plate was not usable, and no spare was available onboard.

That's when our Singapore partner reached out for urgent help. India was in festival mode, but they needed an expert on-site immediately to handle the situation and get the main engine operational.

Mr. Nihit rose to the challenge. Within 30 minutes, he was on his way to the Mundra Port, driving his own car and coordinating with the local agent to expedite gate pass formalities. Our Nastesco Marine - Operation Department also swung into action, handling office formalities remotely.

After 12 hours of travel, Mr. Nihit arrived onboard and assessed the situation. Through his expertise and collaboration with the vessel's crew, he devised a modification to the damaged plate and successfully reinstalled it. Within 12 hours, the world's biggest engine was running again, and everyone onboard breathed a sigh of relief.

Once the new parts arrived from Singapore, they were installed, and the repair was completed to ensure long-term reliability. Mr. Nihit also took the time to explain the root cause of the problem and how to avoid it in the future to the ship's Technical Superintendent and Chief Engineer.

Our client's appreciation and renewed faith in us was the best Diwali and New Year celebration we could have asked for. This experience highlighted the importance of passion, dedication, and commitment in our work.
